At this point, the Julian saga isn’t even fun or funny. It’s just sad.

We’re at the point where everyone is losing. Barça, Atleti, and most of all, Julian himself.

Atletico selling Julian Alvarez to Barcelona is entirely their choice.

Sell him. Don't sell him. Ask for €200m if you want. He's your player and you're perfectly entitled to do what you think is best for your club.

But please, spare me the holier-than-thou act about "ethics", "professionalism" and Barcelona negotiating in bad faith.

Where was all this concern for good faith when Atletico had an agreement with Barca that would require them to pay €40m for Griezmann if he played 45+ minutes in 50% of the games he was available for?

Their solution?

Keep one of their best players on the bench and repeatedly bring him on around the 60th minute so those games wouldn't count towards the clause.

Everyone knew what was happening. Griezmann knew. Simeone knew. Barca knew. The entire football world knew.

And eventually Barca, who desperately needed the money at the time, settled for roughly half the original €40m fee.

Was it within Atletico's contractual rights? Sure.

Was it this wonderful display of "good faith" and sporting ethics that they suddenly seem so passionate about in 2026?

Come on.

Football clubs look after their own interests. Atletico did it then. Barcelona are doing it now. That's the game.

So keep Julian. Sell Julian. Send him to Arsenal. Do whatever you want.

Just drop the saint act while doing it.

You cannot spend years playing the transfer market with every trick available to you and then suddenly discover the moral high ground when the sword falls on the other foot.

Atleti fans,

I am posing this question very sincerely to any of you willing and able to respond, and I hope we can all have a constructive debate.

Everything coming from your circles phrases Barça’s pursuit of Julian as this massive insult - “disrespectful, “lies”, “crossing lines”, but to my knowledge, not once has this notion actually been elaborated on.

My question is simple: what lines have been crossed, and how is Barça’s pursuit of Julian any different from every other high profiling signing?

If they argument is they went to the player first - that is the vast majority of signings in the modern age. And it would be naive at best, and deceitful at worst, to suggest Atleti (and every other club) doesn’t do, or hasn’t done the same.

I’ve also heard “the media” being thrown around. In the suggestion that Julian himself hasn’t been extremely desperate to join, and we’ve manufactured all of this?

Because this is a man who, quite literally, went on public record in the middle of the World Cup to refer to it as his dream.

Again, what’s the angle? What am I missing?

Ultimately, Julian has a contract and your club has the legal right to do as they please. But unless I’m missing something, this outrage over Barça and how they’ve supposedly conducted themselves genuinely makes no sense to me.

And again, I would sincerely be happy to re-evaluate and eat my words if you provide me with valid counter arguments elaborating on what lines we’ve crossed.

Alvarez pushing to leave Atlético Madrid is nothing new, yet somehow people are acting like Barcelona are committing a crime.

Coutinho did the same in 2017, and Gyökeres did it last summer. The anti-Barca propaganda is just insane.

@ReshadRahman @SkySport Of course. You can't consider to buy a player of that stature suddenly mid August. There's one thing that needed immediate attention and that was a new 9. We should have had considered it earlier. No club ks letting their primary 9s out anymore. He's the captain of Inter ffs!
