Wicklow via Mayo. β€ exploring & π· our ancient monuments from the Prehistoric to the Medieval. Trips are documented π. Opinions, pics & clips all my own.
The mysterious Rathcoran #hillfort and cairn in West Wicklow. You initially see Rathcoran #hillfort (double ramparts enclosing Baltinglass hill initially in the foreground of the clip); panning to the opened cairn & Neolithic passage tombs; which emerge from the shroud of clouds.
An exciting little #Christmas start-up by my better half - the North Pole Mapping Agency #Npma. For more info, visit the webpage below. We would greatly appreciate any likes or RTs.

@Durotrigesdig Absolutely, we have an amazing historical landscape here in West Wicklow. I'm in awe every walk. Pic taken from summit of Keadeen mountain.
Delighted to have a paper included in the latest anthology of Irish Chiefs' and Clans Prize papers on aspects of life in Gaelic Ireland. The paper hopefully provides some insights into the relationship between towerhouses and lordship in Mayo (case study).

An amazing tomb at Roscommon Priory (in spite of the fence); containing a rare representation of #gallowglass soldiers (professional warriors in helmets & mail) along the panel. Last 2 pics show more detail of the warriors (7 with a sword, 1 with gallowglass axe). #tombtuesday
Front and rear of Muiredach's High Cross at Monasterboice, Louth. The site at Monasterboice is altogether amazing. The High Crosses on site are in good condition, and their size is hugely impressive.
Not quite a standing stone, but a very special boulder worth noting; a few pics of the Castlestrange Stone in Roscommon. Carved and decorated in La Tène fashion. #StandingStoneSunday
