🚨 Garry Neville on Manchester United losing to newly promoted Hull city
Garry Neville 🗣️
“This is exactly the type of game that tells you where Manchester United really are.
Everyone talks about beating the big teams, but that’s not the real test. The real test is coming up against a newly promoted side, facing a deep defensive block, and finding a way to win.
United had the ball, but possession means nothing if you can’t hurt the opposition. Two set-piece goals conceded, very little creativity, and when Hull sat back, United had no real answer.
That’s the worrying part for me. Manchester United cannot be a team that only looks dangerous when the game is open. If they want to challenge at the top, they have to learn how to break teams down.
These are the games that win you titles, and today, United failed the test.”
🚨 Rio Ferdinand on Manchester United losing to newly promoted Hull City:
“Honestly, that result is unacceptable. For a club of Manchester United’s size, you simply cannot afford to drop points like that, especially against a newly promoted side. I know people will look at Hull City’s approach and say they made it difficult. They defended with five at the back and packed the midfield with four players, which made it extremely difficult to find spaces. But at this level, that cannot be the reason you walk away without a result. The standards at this club are far too high.
If Manchester United are serious about finishing in the Champions League places, this is not the kind of start you want. I also have questions about some of the decisions being made. I don’t really understand why Dorgu is being used so high up the pitch when you have players like Cunha and Rashford who are much more natural in those areas. When Rashford came on, you could immediately see the difference in the attacking threat and the pace on that side. Those are things Carrick has to look at.
I like what Carrick is trying to do with the team, and I still believe he deserves our support. I believe he can be the right man for Manchester United, but he has to learn from games like this. You cannot expect to challenge the bigger sides if you are dropping points against teams you are expected to beat. There is a lot of work ahead, and Carrick needs to make sure the team responds quickly.”
