Saying goodbye to the Edge with a 2-1 Gruul artifacts list last Friday. Trying to find lines for unique drafts that lie beneath the archetype listings. Had fun with EOE even if it didn’t blow me away. Back to Warhammer for the rest of the year!

Forgot to post, but 2-1 last Friday with Dimir. No Virus Beetle makes things hard and I didn’t draw my board wipe all night, but I don’t think it mattered. Too creature light here admittedly, but it didn’t go horrible. Not much of note just learning.

2-1 last Friday before the long weekend with Jund. Gruul landfall feels considerably weaker than I think I gave it credit for. I had it not far behind Simic mentally, but red is so rough. Mulligans suck with these mana bases. Oh well.

2-1 Friday with Azorius. Threw my draft for the sake of money drafting and sticking stubbornly to my bad ideas. Other lanes were much more open and this deck didn’t draw enough cards. The sunborn is in the deck, I just sold it before the pic. Mostly just had fun.

Week three closes with 3-0 Simic Wednesday and 2-1 Rakdos Friday. Red felt so bad to pilot and most games were clinched with nova. The damage removal has a hard time with green dummies and 1-2 drops don’t feel they do enough this set. I’ll keep looking. Simic is wild.

2-0 (IDR3, didn’t play) Friday with Dimir in one of the most disgusting control shells I have ever piloted. The hype around Virus Beetle is correct. Black feels very good and decks like this make green feel a lot less omnipotent despite the slow format like DFT.

With lots of incidental damage is going around with tap synergies, there may be an aggro deck somewhere in here yet. Rakdos feels like it’s biting at the top decks always. It’s going to be a matter of getting over the 3 and 4-drops in these decks, but the removal is great in BR.

Opening week for EOE going 2-1 with Jund and 2-0-1 with Simic. Lands feels like an exceedingly strong place to be. Green, Dimir, and Azorius are looking very strong. Green’s gold cards are truly something terrible to be feared.

2-0 (ID R3, didn’t play) Friday with Jeskai. The ability to create blowouts in this format is extremely powerful and Jeskai accomplishes this is in spades. Many players at my LGS are succeeding with difficult to pilot decks and I got passed plenty of gas as a result.

3-0 (Kinda. It’s complicated.) last night with Mardu. Aggressive strategies are very strong and this deck had even greater room for improvement. Aggro is a little outside my wheelhouse but I’m beginning to tamp it down. Going under these decks feels amazing.

Bonus Monday night draft last night going 2-1 (ID R3) with Abzan splashing blue for Kotis. White felt super open and getting into the red zone helped facilitate wins. Assertive strategies are very powerful and I’ll be looking for them from now on.

2-1 Friday (bye R2) with Temur. This color combo still feels very strong, but the format as a whole is looking insanely top-heavy. Outright counterspelling or getting under the bombs of the format are looking to be more viable solutions if you don’t get one yourself.

2-1 Friday with Abzan midrange. Temur is absolutely insane and I for sure underestimated blue this set. Midrange feels good but a little stinky with how over the top some of its competition can go with stats and cards. Looking to have my tune changed on aggro.

Disjointed in design, Mighty No. 9 makes its spiritual predecessor feel almost like an accident. 2/10.

3-0 (ID R3) with Dimir… AGAIN. This deck was retooled three times with endgame DFT certainly forcing me to be flexible, which I hope pays off for Tarkir. Getting second opinions and talking with my fellow players has certainly led me to much success this format.
