Fire Destroys Shelters at Tigrayan Refugee Camp in Imrakuba, Sudan
----
A fire broke out at a Tigrayan refugee camp in Imrakuba, Sudan, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, destroying multiple shelters and leaving dozens of refugees without basic necessities.
According to information provided to Tigrai Television, Adhanom Kahsay, a representative of Asmelash Grand Foundation, a humanitarian organization operating in the camp, confirmed that 14 shelters were completely destroyed in the incident.
The representative reported that the fire had displaced more than 60 refugees who had been living in the affected shelters, adding that many had lost access to essential items, including housing, food, and clothing, further worsening their already fragile living conditions.
He also noted that displaced populations in Imrakuba camp, as well as in other refugee camps across Sudan, continue to face worsening conditions due to recurring fire incidents.
The affected community, already enduring severe hardship, has called for urgent and coordinated efforts to support their situation and facilitate their safe return to their homeland.
