August, XORA, and Everything I Learned Along the Way
I didn’t expect to spend this much of August talking about @xora_finance
It started pretty simply. I wanted to understand what was actually happening behind the platform, beyond the usual “earn yield” conversations we see everywhere.
So I started digging.
First, I went down the ripple:native rabbit hole, the XRPL, how settlement works, custody, and why things like destination tags actually matter.
Then the questions started getting more interesting.
What happens when you don’t want your crypto sitting idle?
What does earning yield actually look like when you’re still holding an asset you believe in?
That led me into XORA’s different yield opportunities, and eventually into bitcoin:native , stellar:native and tron:native .
The XLM part especially caught my attention because it brought Stellar back into the conversation with the XRP Ledger.
Then I went deeper into the technical side.
I started looking at the things most people probably scroll past, how deposits work, network differences, addresses, memos, custody and the infrastructure sitting underneath the nice interface.
And honestly, that’s probably what I’ve enjoyed most about covering XORA this month.
I came in thinking I was going to write about a crypto platform, but I ended up learning more about how the pieces behind the platform actually fit together.
And now, as August comes to an end, I think that’s the biggest takeaway I’m carrying forward:
Crypto is not only about finding the next asset to buy. It’s also about understanding what you can actually do with the assets you already hold.
I’ve shared a lot of that journey here this month.
And I’m definitely not done exploring it.

What I would not claim, having read the design rather than the slogan:
It will not make every trader equal. Better models still win. It will not make liquidations gentle. It will not make an oracle optional. Makers who are wrong on direction still lose money.
It will change which skill the matching layer rewards. Price and size, inside a known window. Not the purchase of a two-millisecond head start.
That is a market-structure experiment, not a UI refresh. Superluminal is the first place it is being run as a live perps venue.

A batch auction on a slow chain is an auction. On 40ms blocks it can fire 25 times a second, which is what makes the fairness property usable for perps instead of a curiosity. Measured batch intervals on Superluminal’s testnet have sat on that 40.0ms median. The window is short enough that waiting for the seal does not feel like waiting for a call auction. It is long enough that raw ping stops being the allocation rule.
You still have the lag to wherever price is first discovered — often a CEX, on the order of a tenth of a second in the comparisons people have run. DFBA does not pretend that lag is gone. It stops that lag from being converted into a better place in line on this venue.
