Bring it to the table- hashes are a unique type of digital signature that provides tamper evidence on encrypted documents.

Each hash is unique. If you add characters to your message the hash changes. One common hash algorithm is a SHA-256. This encodes the sender’s message into a 256 bit key. Here’s a video below to show how a SHA-256 hash works!

In other words if your message was change en route a hash would provide evidence of this.

Essentially a hash “signs” your encrypted document to prove to the recipient the sender was really you without revealing the contents of your message.

Hashes are used in encryption for message authentication and verification. They work similar to a signature on a document.
