You ladies are unforgettable! Thank you for being the kind of students who remind me of the ultimate joy behind this profession. Aaaand I'm crying and need to save it for tomorrow. Love you both! ❤️ #MamaPisaCryBaby#SorryNotSorry#IllBringTissuesTomorrow https://t.co/0P0eBcpkO5
"With our most difficult students, the current way schools try to discipline students does not change their behavior, and often it escalates the problems. Discipline, unlike punishment, is proactive and begins before there are problems." https://t.co/9QanaAkNqC
A powerful way to end the school year, "year mapping" allows students to see what they’ve learned in your class (and it’s a great resource for your incoming class!) https://t.co/a1CaHtxTMT
Proof of why we need to not simply promise higher test scores as a reason for reform. Some already have a head start. We need to give Ss the opportunity to practice building agency so they see they have it in themselves. That is the root of hope. https://t.co/tADCAZl5nY
Thank you @DeeFabry for teaching me to put students at the center of their learning! I ask questions like this now to help provide meaningful lessons for students, and while it adds some planning time, I know Ss will walk away from class tm w/ a lesson they actually wanted!
@ASCD A5. They fail because they are punitive. They provide no insights into what is really going on with the student as a person. Until you connect and uncover the real issue you can’t provide support in collaboration with the student. Detention, suspension, etc. is a cop out.
@caragerber@educationweek @mlinic1 Like this statement from April EL. “We need to create a school climate in which everyone consciously works to listen and understand others’ perspectives.” We can’t control the negativity in the media, but we can create a more empathic worldview. #equity4learning
While teachers are obliged to meet standards, they retain the autonomy in terms of instruction and assessment FOR learning. #choicetheory. What are you doing to engage Ss and to offer them freedom of choice? #Assess2learn
