Using a chess metaphor, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano alleged on Facebook that the truth about the flood control scandal was being kept from coming out.

"The real issue is why there is such determination to keep the truth about the flood control scandal from coming out: why the rush to control committees, why the pressure, why the attacks, why the endless distractions," Cayetano said in his lengthy Facebook post today, June 14, 2026.

The Senate has been embroiled in a leadership issue since Cayetano took office as Senate President last May 11. On June 3, Sen. Win Gatchalian was elected Senate President Pro Tempore and serves as acting Senate President following a 12-member quorum when Sen. Chiz Escudero appeared in the Senate Plenary session.
