SHOW YOUR LOVE! 44 Years Ago, The Time dropped 777-9311 as a single from their 2nd studio album What Time Is It?. It would forever traumatize musicians, as drummers around the world spent an inordinate amount of time trying to replicate the drum track.

It was widely believed to be a stock drum track in the Linn LM-1 drum machine by Tower of Power's David Garibaldi. However, David debunked that myth in an exclusive Funkatopia interview (https://t.co/wm6DYYSeb6) indicating that he had nothing to do with that drum pattern. He noted that while the drum sounds may be his, he did NOT create the drum loop featured in the song.

777-9311 was also an actual phone number that belonged to guitarist Dez Dickerson and Prince loved the lyrical flow of it and didn't even bother consulting Dez, who was forced to change it once the song got released.

Even though Prince wrote and performed the instrumentation on the track, he was not credited. The B-side for the single was the cult classic Grace, which featured a fake interview with Morris Day over an instrumental loop from 777-9311. But her name was not Grace.
