America turned 250 this July 4, which is a good moment to ask what independence means inside the enterprise.

For the last fifty years, software gave companies a kind of independence from paper, memory, meetings, and local judgment by making work legible.

The next shift is different.

AI is not independence from software. It is independence from software-shaped work.

The question is no longer just who owns the record.

It is who owns execution.

I wrote about what that means for SaaS, services firms, management, and the operating model of the AI-native enterprise.

RIP Charlie Munger.
