Doctoral Researcher studying the impacts of offshore windfarms on benthic ecosystems @sos_bangor_uni @CDT_SuMMeR. Works identifying #deepsea creatures&habitats
Great to hear updates about the scientific findings of the @ECOWind_UK projects and learn about how they could be used to inform policy objectives. I presented a poster highlighting how we plan to use trait-based approaches to document ecosystem change within OWF. @CDT_SuMMeR
An initial discovery of high levels of oxygen in complete darkness on the seafloor prompted a revolutionary new study which shows that #deepseanodules containing metals such as cobalt, lithium and copper can produce oxygen through seawater electrolysis! https://t.co/EW4a1eNi02
Day 4 of @CDT_SuMMeR brought us to #Newborough on #IsleofAnglesey.
Learned about the importance of sand dunes to protect from coastal erosion. Finished the day presenting our group results of the #datachallenge. SuMMeR school was an amazing opportunity to connect with my cohort!
Day 3 of @CDT_SuMMeR school brought together a panel of advisors to discuss #career opportunities. Everyone’s willingness to share their experiences provided valuable learning for all participants. Thank you @DavidCurnick@Mel_Austen @louisa_evans @micheljkaiser and Martin Skov.
Flash presentation @CDT_SuMMeR school on using #traitbased approaches to document #change in the #benthic community as a result of #offshorewind development. Excited that my snapshot of work from my first year of PhD inspired questions and discussion from my peers.
Day 2 of @CDT_SuMMeR school brought thought provoking presentations on marine licensing and planning from @NatResWales, @ellieford_ from @DefraGovUK, and the @The_MMO. The following panel discussion provided a great learning experience to understand careers in civil service.
Day 1 of @CDT_SuMMeR school featured presentations on #offshorerenewableenergy. To see that my PhD project fell within a key evidence gap for OWF ‘#benthicecosystem-habitat loss’ was encouraging as it shows that our work is relevant to needs identified by the sector.
Saw it this morning live! Well done, @Macomabalthica. Made a great point about shifting distributions of species in response to climate change and how this could change the target fisheries species.
Did you catch Professor in Marine Biology, @Macomabalthica on @BBCBreakfast with @BBCJustinR this morning? 👀
He had the opportunity to talk about @sos_bangor_uni research on the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems.

An amazing and thought provoking conference @eimr2024 . Met so many great people, participated in my first Ceilidh @FaraOrkney, and got to talk about the importance of seabed ecosystems and how best to monitor them. Goodbye Orkney, I can’t wait to come back!
That's a wrap (almost) for #EIMR2024! What a week of oral presentations, posters and general discussions we've had. A huge thank you to all the delegates for their attendance and interaction. Lots of food for thought and we can't wait for #EIMR2026!
And now for our final session of the day focussed on impacts on the benthos. First up is @DeepSeaSparrow from @BangorUni detailing trait-based approaches to understand offshore wind impacts on benthic ecosystem process and services.
Day 2: @eimr2024 Interesting to hear about the different tools being developed to understand #ecosystem change. It seems it is time to address potential impacts on a cumulative scale as we need to provide data in short time frame to be useful during the consenting process.
Day 1: @eimr2024 conference begins! Participated in workshops learning about next generation collision and displacement monitoring around tidal arrays. Presentation by @EMEC_Ltd highlighting new technology development and the need to focus on creating positive community impact.
The #Orkney adventure begins! 🚢 I will be presenting at the Environmental Interactions of Marine Renewables conference next week. Excited to talk about how to use trait-based analysis to monitor the impact of offshore wind farms on #benthicecosystems.
Zoom in & you’ll see that the deep sea is recognised as a critical knowledge gap 🔎! Fantastic to see this acknowledged at the global level & thus identified as a priority for the remainder of the @UNOceanDecade!
Officially back from my first research cruise on the Prince Madog 🚢! An incredible experience surveying #seabedintegrity in the #IrishSea. Cute critter photos to follow! 🐙
@CDT_SuMMeR @sos_bangor_uni @BangorUni
@jjwaggitt @Lorna_McKellar @sos_bangor_uni @BangorUni @Macomabalthica It was closed unfortunately, we checked when we first got off the boat. Or the bowling competition would have been on for sure! 🎳
See my #InternationalWomensDay profile on the @TheCrownEstate Marine Data Exchange and read about the other amazing women who are making waves in the marine sector. So thankful to be a part of it!

Happy #InternationalWomensDay ! Excited to be interviewed by @TheCrownEstate for their profiles on women in the Marine Industry. Read about me and 5 other incredible women making waves in the marine sector. https://t.co/nahUI6d5zh
Canada has signed the UN High Seas Treaty, which aims to protect biodiversity in #internationalwaters. Fantastic news, as much of my work has been focused on documenting the incredible levels of #biodiversity in the #highseas! https://t.co/yZArRbN0rU
Attending #BIIGLE user meeting to understand the new features available for annotating #deepsea#benthic creatures after working with this program for over 5 years. Incredible work being done to make annotating large volumes of imagery quicker and more accurate.
