Congrats to @OmarAArtan! Setbacks often serve as crucial stepping stones to success. Artan’s journey is a perfect example of resilience and determination. Keep shining and winning bro and we proud of you. #Somalia 🇸🇴.
From #Somalia to the world 🌍
They closed 1 door, but destiny opened many more. #Africa’s pride, Somalia’s pride. No obstacle can stand in the way of someone meant for greatness.
#OmarArtan is showing the world that setbacks don’t define you, they prepare you 4 something bigger
The US labelled him a terrorist without a single piece of evidence because its decision to ban him backfired. Instead, it ended up making him the most famous referee in the world.
🇸🇴⚽️ Huge congratulations to #Somali referee #OmarArtan on his appointment to officiate the @UEFA Super Cup between Aston Villa vs PSG! 🏆
A proud moment for #Somalia and #African football. Your hard work, dedication, and excellence continue to inspire the next generation.👏🏾

The decision to refuse a Somali World Cup referee entry to the U.S. is "insulting to the entire African continent", an ex-member of FIFA's racism task force tells @BarbaraGSerra.

Solidarity with Omar Artan, the #WorldCup referee from Somalia denied entry in the United States.
How sad to see a country whose greatness owes so much to the talent of migrants and refugees refuse entry to a man of great talent.
🇸🇴 Thousands gathered at Mogadishu Stadium to welcome Somali referee Omar Artan after his return home
◼️ Artan, the CAF Referee of the Year, was unable to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being denied entry to the US despite holding a valid visa
The story of Omar is not isolated: this is the struggle that many Africans despite the incredible talents, ability and competence are facing daily. Keep
Your light up Omar, you are the voice of reason.
Football is meant to unite people across borders and cultures. The decision to exclude Omar Artan from the 2026 World Cup after he was denied entry to the United States stands in stark contrast to that spirit.
No country that prevents accredited World Cup officials from participating should be entrusted with hosting international sporting events- particularly the US in this case.

A Somali referee makes history — first ever from his country to officiate a World Cup match.
The US: “Not allowed in.” - So much for “sport brings the world together.” Unless you’re from the “wrong” country.
Shameful. The ‘World Cup’ belongs to everyone — not just those the US approves of.
Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of talented poet, brilliant scholar, generous educator, and a true advisor to Warscapes magazine, Ali Jimale Ahmed. He was only 71 years old May he rest in peace and power🖤🌹
Here is clip of him reading poems for an amazing WARSCAPES event from March 2012 titled "An Evening of Poetry from the Horn of Africa" featuring Ali Jimale Ahmed, Solomon Deressa, Charles Cantalupo, Surafel Wondimu, Anna Moschovakis, and Maaza Mengiste.

Some paid “analysts” are deliberately misrepresenting the Somali people as apathetic or divided in the face of recent attempts to fragment the country. That narrative is false. Somalis are unequivocally united in defending our sovereignty and the territorial integrity of our nation.
#Somalia is one country, united by a shared history, a common faith, a single flag, and an unbreakable sense of belonging. No clan, no region, no false line can divide a people who know they are one nation. 🇸🇴
As someone who has personally experienced this individual’s online defamation, I can attest to the profound ignorance he consistently displays regarding our local context and societal issues. His lack of even a basic understanding of people’s right to express their opinions and participating in political discourses and debates in media platforms such as X, has created unnecessary confusion, which he takes advantage of and likes to portray it as attack on our brotherly Türkiye interests in #Somalia.
Time and again, he takes ordinary, non-political issues and inflates them into provocative narratives. A clear example is the current situation where a customer simply raised a legitimate concern about mistreatment by Turkish Airlines, yet Umut has attempted to twist it into something entirely different, a distortion that harms the long-standing and friendly relations between our two countries.
It's my humble view that his reckless spread of misinformation, hatred, and cyberbullying is neither condoned nor reflective of the values of the Turkish people or the Government of Türkiye.
