I think when you die, your brain permanently stops functioning and your consciousness ends with it. You don’t experience darkness, silence or an eternity of nothing. There’s simply no experience at all.
I see no convincing reason to believe we wake up somewhere else. This life is the one we know we’ve got, and that makes how we spend it matter even more.
They’re unveiling the ark of the covenant like it’s a new Mercedes at a dealership.
Give it another Sunday and they’ll wheel out the golden calf with a contactless donation terminal fitted to its forehead. 😂
Wendell, atheists aren’t required to believe a single one of those five claims.
And asking you to justify your beliefs isn’t demanding absolute certainty.
You’ve assigned us an entire worldview, then attacked it. Why not challenge what we actually believe?
Atheism’s favorite move is to demand absolute certainty from Christians…
while living on a mountain of assumptions.
• The universe just “is” • Life just “happened” • Morality is just “useful” •Consciousness is just “emergent” • Truth is just “whatever works”
@Truth_matters20 Danny, “true Christian” seems to mean anyone who agrees with you.
Catholics also regard scripture as god’s word, yet reject it as the sole authority.
So what actually makes your interpretation correct and theirs wrong? Your confidence isn’t the deciding factor.
@erichovind Agreed, Eric. Now apply that same discernment to the bible. A story can be compelling, meaningful and still contain terrible ideas.
Are you willing to question those ideas just as critically, or does your religious conviction get special treatment?
And what happens when someone clings to Jesus, trusts him completely and their life still falls apart?
Does that count against the promise, or do we just start calling the suffering a blessing too? 😂
@DrFrankTurek Frank, you’ve defined conservatism as preserving everything true, right and beautiful, then concluded Christians must be conservatives. That’s circular.
Which specific conservative political position is required by Christianity, and how have you established that?
@mikeautoplug You claim the bible contains the mind of god. How exactly did you establish that?
And how would you distinguish a genuinely divine message from something written by humans who believed they were speaking for god?
I don’t. This world is the only home we’ve established exists.
Other religions make equally supernatural claims about what happens after death, often with completely different destinations.
So how did you determine that we’ll stand before jesus rather than encounter one of the countless alternatives?
And the worst part? Once people have publicly defended a lie, correcting it becomes a matter of pride.
They’d rather spend another five years defending nonsense than spend five seconds admitting they got it wrong.
Just spent £70 on the new Call of Duty despite not touching the game in over 3 years. 😂
For that price, I better be able to smell the gunpowder, feel the bullets fly past my head and claim a military pension when I retire. Fucking hell. 😭
Jesus was just some bloke from Nazareth. Now, 2,000 years later, people are dragging trees into their living rooms to celebrate his birthday. 😭
Imagine trying to explain that to him. 😂
And here’s the thing, sleep paralysis can make people see frightening figures or sense someone standing in their bedroom.
We’ve actually got a documented explanation for that. 😂
Yet somehow, people jump straight to demons before considering what their own brains are capable of.
Steven, you’re discussing whether two invisible spirits can occupy the same body like it’s a dispute over tenancy rights. 😂
Before we start arguing over who gets to move in, how exactly do you establish that someone is possessed by the holy spirit or a demon in the first place?
What’s the actual test?
You sleep easier knowing Tommy Robinson is out there protecting families? 😂
A Syrian schoolboy and his family had to relocate after Robinson spread false allegations about him. He then repeatedly breached a court order telling him to stop.
Whose families are you actually concerned about?
Yep. And that’s what makes religious extremism so dangerous. Someone can convince themselves that taking another person’s life is an act of devotion, then expect to be rewarded for it.
Imagine being so certain about an afterlife that you’re willing to end somebody else’s actual life.
Imagine confidently predicting other people’s eternal punishment, then accusing THEM of pride. 😂
Mate, you’ve not even established that hell exists, yet you’re already announcing who’s going there and why.
Where does that confidence come from?
Exactly, mate. 😂 And that’s the part that gets me. If things go well, god gets the credit. If everything falls apart, god apparently has a bigger plan.
At what point does the belief ever risk being wrong?
When every possible outcome counts as confirmation, you’ve stopped testing the claim altogether.
And what happens when someone clings to Jesus, trusts him completely and their life still falls apart?
Does that count against the promise, or do we just start calling the suffering a blessing too? 😂
Sheila, you’re talking about god’s anger like you’ve just had a personal update from him. 😂
How exactly do you know how angry he is? And more importantly, what’s he actually done that demonstrates this wrath?
Because so far, the threats seem to be coming from humans.
