West Bengal has announced plans to transform Siliguri's Kanchenjunga Stadium into an international-standard sports complex. During an inspection, officials from the Government of West Bengal highlighted poor maintenance, generator-powered floodlights and the lack of dedicated player washrooms, saying these shortcomings will be addressed.

Spread across 7 acres with a seating capacity of around 27,000, the stadium is among Bengal's biggest sporting venues. The proposed upgrade is part of the state's broader push to strengthen sports infrastructure across the region and improve facilities for athletes and major sporting events.
