#Avianinfluenza (#birdflu) viruses can also infect wild mammals. If you find a dead wild carnivore or marine mammal report it: England - 03000 200 301 Wales - 03003 038 268 Scotland - your local Field Services Office. Further info: https://t.co/DV5APh4uJG
While this is the first time avian influenza virus has been detected in a sheep, it's not the first time influenza of avian origin has been detected in livestock in other countries. There is no evidence to suggest an increased risk to the nation’s livestock population.
The UK's Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed a case of influenza of avian origin (H5N1) in a single sheep in Yorkshire.
