Thank you, @jessicabennett for including me in this amazing project.
“I’m an autism mom, and we always say, ‘We can’t get sick, we can’t die and we can’t have the breakdowns that we need,’” she said.
“I have to keep it together for everyone else.” #ThePrimalScream
I spent five months following three mothers in three parts of the country — Dekeda, Mercedes and Liz — who kept time diaries of their days.
Our photo editor @TiffanieGraham beautifully brought their photos to life.

My 15 yr old daughter has nonverbal autism and LOVES @HamiltonMusical - specifically @leslieodomjr singing this song. After being obsessed with the soundtrack for 2 years, she FINALLY saw the production yesterday! 😭Thank you @Lin_Manuel for creating this masterpiece. #Hamilfilm
@MDComptroller Thank you so much for the recognition of my service to the community! I am honored to be a recipient of this award. Your recognition has encouraged me to continue my service to this community more than ever! Thank you for visiting us! #AutismAcceptance
Congratulations @DekedaB for receiving the 2021 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Montgomery County! Comptroller Franchot honored Dekeda Brown in recognition for her work promoting acceptance and awareness for people with special needs. /1

The pandemic has been a rough time for mothers of young children. @jessicabennett and @DekedaB told us about a new project from the @NYTimes that invites moms to let out their "Primal Screams," in one of our fav segments from last week.

For Dekeda Brown, a typical day during the pandemic looks like this: Dekeda, at her dining room table, with two laptops open. In her left ear, she listens in on a work call; in her right ear, her 15-year-old daughter’s special education teacher conducts a math lesson.
I truly appreciate @AnneFinucane and her daughter, Julia, for sharing their voting advice! As a #specialneedsmom, I also believe that all voices must be heard.
These important conversations are necessary and do count! #VOTE
@DNPerk1 Thank you, Sir! I mention the importance for parents being transparent with their Executive / Team regarding availability while helping their child during scheduled class times. The other mothers drop some great gems as well!
WE appreciate your support immensely 🙏🏽
Join me tomorrow at 9 AM ET / Fri at 930 ET on the latest episode of the Emmy winning series, #TheMotherSide!
I’m sharing tips to help you prepare your child with #specialneeds for the Fall virtual semester!
A few other amazing moms will share their tips as well 👩🏽📚🎥
How is the virtual middle school orientation going for my daughter, you ask?
Teacher: “Well, the GOOD thing is that you don’t have to worry about lockers!”
Baby Girl: “But...I really WANTED to use a locker this year!”🥺
This virus. 😫
