Espero una generosa intervención por parte de la comunidad internacional, de manera que no falte la asistencia necesaria a estos hermanos y hermanas nuestros.

I had a meeting with Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen @Statsmin, President of France @EmmanuelMacron, @bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz, and Prime Minister of Poland @donaldtusk.

Russia’s violations of European airspace require an effective response. We are ready to ramp up the production of drones, electronic warfare systems, and other critical components, including through joint production format and with the help of the SAFE instrument. All of this can protect all of us – the whole of Europe.

We also discussed the implementation of the PURL initiative and work on security guarantees that must include protection on land, in the air, and at sea. Further contacts within the Coalition of the Willing were agreed upon.

I spoke with Pope Leo XIV. It was our first conversation, but already a very warm and truly substantive one.

I thanked His Holiness for his support of Ukraine and all our people. We deeply value his words about the need to achieve a just and lasting peace for our country and the release of prisoners.

We also discussed the thousands of Ukrainian children deported by Russia. Ukraine counts on the Vatican’s assistance in bringing them home to their families.

I informed the Pope about the agreement between Ukraine and our partners that, starting today, a full and unconditional ceasefire for at least 30 days must begin. I also reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness for further negotiations in any format, including direct talks — a position we have repeatedly emphasised. Ukraine wants to end this war and is doing everything to achieve that. We now await similar steps from Russia.

I invited His Holiness to make an apostolic visit to Ukraine. Such a visit would bring real hope to all believers and to all our people.

We agreed to stay in contact and plan in-person meeting in the near future.

Nació en Trujillo (Cáceres, España 🇪🇦), hijo con señorío de naturaleza española del hidalgo Gonzalo Pizarro Rodríguez de Aguilar (1446-1522), llamado 'el largo' o 'el romano', importante personaje de la época con gran influencia que participó en las campañas de Italia bajo el mando de Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba; y de Francisca González Mateos, dama de recámara noble de Beatriz Pizarro, la tía de Gonzalo, devota del convento de San Francisco el Real (junto a la Puerta de la Coria).

Pizarro era pariente lejano de Hernán Cortés, quien conquistó el Imperio azteca.
