🚨South Alabama Jaguars Land a Dynamic 2027 DB Duo: Delwin Perkins Jr. and Craig Connor III🚨
(Part 1)
The South Alabama Jaguars are building momentum in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and their latest additions in the secondary signal serious intent. In a span of just a few days, the Jaguars secured hard commitments from two versatile defensive backs: Delwin “Dejay” Perkins Jr @DelwinPerkins4 from McComb High School in Mississippi and Craig Connor III @Craig_C123 from powerhouse John Curtis Christian in Louisiana.
Both players bring different but complementary skill sets that align perfectly with new defensive coordinator Todd Orlando’s vision and the demands of Sun Belt football.
Here’s why this dynamic duo represents a smart, high-upside addition for the Jaguars.
Delwin “Dejay” Perkins Jr. – The Versatile Ball Hawk from McComb
Delwin Perkins Jr. (5’10”, 170 lbs) committed to South Alabama during an official visit around June 20-21, 2026, choosing the Jaguars over other G5 and in-state options.
A two-way standout and track athlete at McComb High, Perkins earned Mississippi 4A First-Team All-State honors as a sophomore with 50 tackles and 6 interceptions.
Scouting Report Highlights:
• Elite ball skills and coverage instincts: Natural playmaker with a nose for the football. Multiple interceptions across his high school career (including 4 as a junior and 6 as a sophomore). Shows excellent timing, quick hands, long arms, and the ability to disrupt passes or come down with picks. Fluid hips and good mirroring ability allow him to stay glued to receivers in man coverage while thriving in zone.
• Run support and physicality: Despite his size, Perkins is a willing and physical tackler who contributes in run support with solid pursuit angles. He forces fumbles and makes plays near the line of scrimmage.
• Versatility and athleticism: Lines up at corner, safety, and even contributes on offense. Track background (strong 100m times and jumping events) translates to range and explosiveness in the secondary. High-character prospect with a 4.0 GPA.
Perkins brings speed, playmaking ability, and scheme flexibility, exactly the type of DB who can contribute early in sub packages or as a rotational piece while developing into a starter.
