@hrdag and the ITJP have been engaged in a long-term effort to restore the names and identities of those killed and disappeared in Sri Lanka since 1958, ensuring they are remembered with dignity and historical accuracy.
We are releasing the names of individuals who were killed or disappeared during the period of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) deployment (October 1987 to March 1990) in the Northern and Eastern provinces: https://t.co/s4hSVspnBL

Sharing some exciting news: my play Exorcism (2025) is currently featured in the South Asian Theater in Silicon Valley exhibit at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in San Jose.
I’m especially glad that the mask of Naga Raksha (the Cobra Demon) created for my performance by Chithrananda Olaboduwa, from one of Sri Lanka’s oldest mask-making families, inspired the cover. Wonderful to see Olaboduwa mask making tradition crossing geographical boundaries!
It also feels slightly uncanny that a play set inside an exhibit is now featured in one. 😃
Exhibit:
April 20 - June 20
DiNapoli Gallery - Second Floor

A pretty obvious fact, but useful data. Western Province, which accounts for 42% of Sri Lanka's GDP in 2024, has more than 40% of those with a degree or above.
Census data is out and the @LankaSTAT have eveloped this cool dashboard with @UNFPASriLanka

I have arrived in Colombo at a critical moment as Sri Lanka transitions from crisis response toward recovery and sustainable growth. I was warmly received at the airport by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Finance, Anil Jayantha Fernando.
This visit is an opportunity to engage with government, private sector, and communities on the ground to better understand priorities for the next phase of development.
@ADB_HQ is supporting Sri Lanka’s transition by strengthening infrastructure and connectivity and mobilizing investment to enable private sector–led growth.
I look forward to advancing these priorities together over the coming days.

The Last Kings of Lanka
In the early 18th century, a young Telugu prince named Vijaya Rajasinha set sail from the South Indian city of Madurai for the island of Sri Lanka.
This initiative was launched just days after Cyclone Ditwah to rapidly capture road and bridge infrastructure damage across the country and support the subsequent rebuilding effort.
It began as a volunteer-driven effort, with 3 people working closely with RDA officials to gather and validate field data. I’m glad to see it now fully adopted by RDA and PRDA, extending all the way to community-level input. The system is available in all 3 languages too.
All publicly visible data consists only of posts verified by RDA. Community submissions are first placed in an unverified queue and become publicly visible only after verification by the relevant authority.
The platform will be released as an open-source project and made publicly accessible soon.

Kandy Court Complex and many other government offices went under water with Ditwah. Centuries-old documents—the heart and soul of Sri Lanka’s history—were exposed to grave danger. If mould builds most of the old manuscripts would be permanently lost.
When I saw the urgent public appeal put out by Dr. Nadeera Rupasinghe, Director General at @SL_Archives my mind immediately went back decades to understand the critical nature of this request. Decades ago my father headed the National Archives and drilled into us why preserving the history of our nation mattered.
The decision to reach out to MD at @aitkenspence Parakrama Dissanayake on the advice of my friend Niral
Kadawataaracchi was the right call. Even though overseas he immediately connected me with their CEO of logistics Janaka Gunawardene and his team. In a matter of hours and dozens of conversations with officials in Kandy and Colombo we arranged the entire requirement of 3 40ft-refrigerated containers to be transported to the Court Complex in Kandy, for up to three entire months. Super gesture by @AitkenSpence.
Many thanks to everyone involved including the Secretary Justice, several Kandy judges and lawyers of the Kandy Bar and to the CEB team for going out of their way to provide power connections. My colleague @ChamindraniKirielle did a great job helping coordination at that end.
Special thanks to Minister Harshana Nanayakkara for the approvals.
These containers will keep our precious archives safe for the next three months during which time they would be repaired to the extent possible.
Kudos to the DG National Archives for thinking out of the box to publicly appeal without which no one would have known and stepped up to help.
Today, we saved a chunk of 🇱🇰 past so it can live on for the future.
