Productive Saturday so far…
Another LCL win for @BlueAcesBball and then went on a road trip to see Coach McClain and @MuskingumWBB pick up a win. Then got to catch up with a few of my @OhioFuture alums from the game.
Recruiting can be a Cold Business.
A D2 program. The Coach offers a HS Recruit. That Coach takes a job with an FBS program but passes the Recruit off to the D2 program DC to finalize.
Recruit complies with all requirements, maintains communication with D2 program. Financial Aid\Scholarship package is presented to Recruit\Recruits family, all is accepted and a 2 day OV is scheduled for the following week.
The day before travel to the D2 program for the OV, the DC calls Recruit and informs him he has no spot or scholarship.
“Miscalculated” roster spots was the explanation and “Very Sorry” for the mistake. The HS Recruit who has had the rug pulled out more than once during his recruitment journey is disappointed, but not surprised.
Moral of the story….Recruitment can be a cold business and you can’t wear your heart on your sleeve.
With all the changes affecting this recruiting cycle, multiple committable offers that you may have right now can become no offers very quickly.
Advice to HS recruits:
• Ask if that offer is committable
• Ask about whether roster limits affect the program
• Immediately inquire about visits to meet the coaching staff, don’t delay
• Commit/sign sooner rather than later
