Pacific Power was the presenting sponsor for Oregon State University’s 2022 College of Engineering Expo. The Expo featured 230 senior design projects. This year’s Expo was the first in-person presentation in three years, and an estimated 3,000 people attended the event. #STEM
@OPBmorning I heard that yesterday and my logical brain thought that by attracting females, they’d attract males and families would form thereby growing the population. If you hadn’t fessed up I’d not have ever known.
This is the second little terrestrial garter snake (Thamnophis elegans) that we have caught next to the house in the last few days. Must be spring. This one is larger than the first one.
@N8Swick I got one of those a month ago. Doing Sage Grouse surveys in SE Oregon a couple of weeks ago I could count birds well before the sun actually came up. Super nice. Also easy to share between people of different heights.
@VirginiaGewin We have a 2016 VW eGolf that we bought used 4 years ago. Love the car, space, maintenance is a breeze, etc. Just reserved a Hyundai Ioniq5 because we need more range. Regardless of what you get, plan on putting in a level 2 charging station at home. It makes charging a breeze.
.@ReclamationCGB released an #RFP yesterday for Coho #Salmon restoration projects on the #Klamath River. There is over $1.4 million available this year. A ton of great work could be done with that money. Pre-proposals due March 28.

@buxton_rachel @MikkoJimenez Don’t worry about it. Birding is fun and you can do it anywhere. There are biological inaccuracies all over TV and movies. Just yesterday a bullfrog made a pacific chorus frog ribbet in an episode of Blacklist. I yelled at the screen. There are CA quail all over the universe…
@TrexLab Thanks for this. We have some homemade buoys on a reservoir I manage. They are bigger and support a winch for automatic profiling, but we have had some issues and just had one flip and get totally ruined. So, perhaps we can use some of these ideas for upgrades.
@frank_burdon We use U26s on the Klamath in northern California. It’s highly productive and they need cleaning every 3 weeks to@minimized drug generated by fouling. If you do that they are solid and the data is reliable. Their software to convert to local %saturation is a little picky though

@CageyRatfish We have done this. Mowed the grass really short then put a good solid layer of cardboard down followed by manure, straw, etc. Covered the whole thing in black plastic to increase the temperature and composting rate through the winter. Planted through the plastic. Worked great.
@__daniel____ All of the information in this thread is good. We feed exclusively shelled black oil sunflower seeds because it is cleaner and there is less waste. Important in urban settings where rats will clean up dropped seeds. Squirrel baffles are a must. The rest is trial and error.
