I so much love this take because it completely exposes the double standard towards the new Resident Evil reboot.

If you refuse to consider the 2026 film a real entry just because it ditches the OG heroes for a bumbling everyday courier, then by that exact logic, you have to throw out Resident Evil 7 too.

The gaming community universally praises RE7 as a masterpiece, completely forgetting that it took the exact same massive gamble by introducing Ethan Winters, a totally normal guy with zero combat training, no ties to Umbrella, and enemies that weren't standard zombies. Shifting the camera to an ordinary civilian isn’t an insult to the lore; it is literally the exact narrative blueprint that successfully saved the video games a decade ago and did the exact same for the movie franchise.
