The time has come to start considering a broad coalition of willing for just peace in Ukraine. “Peace” on terms of the aggressor is called a capitulation and would only encourage all current and future aggressors. Free world must stand up to the evil.
We are Americans.
We are the most powerful nation on the planet.
What defines us is not our power to dominate the weak.
What demonstrates our character is not our capacity to traumatize the afflicted.
What speaks our truth is not how we taunt, deride or belittle the embattled, broken or battered.
We are:
The country of the Marshall Plan
The nation of The Berlin Airlift
The nation whose leader said, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”
We are at our best when we are resolute against evil -- not when we kowtow to those who perpetrate it.
We tell our truth when we defend the weak -- not when we do it only if we get protection money.
We are America when our leaders call the dictators dictators and those who fight to defend democracy against tyranny what they are: heroes.
Donald Trump and JD Vance didn't show strength today -- they showed weakness.
They belittled a giant and showed just how small they are.
They have the most vaunted titles in the world: President and Vice President of The United States of America. But the title doesn't make the man. And today both men brought shame to their titles.
A weary warrior was before them. A beleaguered man who has lost thousands of his friends and comrades to the unjust and illegal aggression of an authoritarian leader.
They showed no grace; no magnanimity of spirit; no diplomatic acumen. They were small bullies with big titles and they disrespected the history and legacy of the nation they lead.
Today, Donald Trump acted more like Russia's Putin than America's President.
Well, sure—Zelensky could have found a better way to tiptoe around Trump and Vance.
Of course, he made mistakes. And naturally, every single one of us on Twitter would have handled the situation far bettter.
But the real problem is this: when you're subjected to a setup like this—when every step you take is met with a grenade contemptuously tossed at your feet—one of them is bound to knock you down. And the moment it does, they’ll rush in, shovels in hand, eager to finish you off.
Everything could have proceeded normally—both sides issuing standard statements from their respective viewpoints, signing an agreement, and then going their separate ways.
I don't recall Macron ever facing such obstruction simply because, in his remarkable audacity, he dared to point out that Europe is providing more assistance and that it's given without any compensation.
This was never about a fair, reasonable bilateral meeting or the signing of agreements. It was about engineering a scandal at the first convenient opportunity, deliberately derailing the talks, and publicly humiliating Zelensky in front of the cameras.
The EU wasn’t formed to screw anyone. Quite the opposite. It was formed to maintain peace, to build respect among our nations, to create free and fair trade, and to strengthen our transatlantic friendship. As simple as that. 🇪🇺🇺🇸
Throughout Russia's criminal war of aggression against Ukraine, Russian forces have committed war crimes against Ukrainians on a scale not seen since the Second World War.
A just end to this war must include holding Russian war criminals to account.
