**Abdulrahman Mohamed El Sayed**, a common Arabic Muslim name but where the name comes from and whom and what it honors and glorify? Let's break it down 👇

Breaking it down reveals direct links to some of the most documented episodes of mass violence, execution, and enslavement in early and later Islamic history.

**Abdulrahman** means “Servant of the Most Merciful.” While theologically referring to God, it was borne by multiple historical rulers known for extreme brutality.

- Abdur Rahman Khan, the “Iron Amir” of Afghanistan (1880–1901), is recorded as ordering roughly 100,000 judicial executions during his reign. His campaigns against the Hazaras involved mass slaughter, mass enslavement of women and children (thousands sold in Kabul and Kandahar markets), displacement of large portions of the population, and the construction of towers of human heads as warnings. Contemporary observers described a systematic reign of terror that included blowing prisoners from cannons, flaying, and other methods.

- Earlier, Abd al-Rahman I (founder of the Umayyad Emirate of Córdoba) and his successors oversaw the demolition of churches (including the Basilica of St. Vincent, whose materials were used for the Great Mosque), public beheadings, crucifixions of rivals, and the display of heads. Under later Cordoban rulers in the same naming tradition, dozens of Christians were executed in the 850s for blasphemy or apostasy (the “Martyrs of Córdoba”).

**Mohamed** is the Arabic form of Muhammad, the founder of Islam (c. 570–632). Traditional Islamic sources (Ibn Ishaq, al-Tabari, and others) record the following:

- After the Battle of the Trench in 627, the Jewish tribe of Banu Qurayza was accused of treachery. They surrendered after a siege. The arbitrator they accepted, Saʿd ibn Muʿādh, ruled that the adult males be executed and the women and children enslaved. Muhammad approved. Reports put the number of men beheaded at 600–900 (some accounts lower). Trenches were dug in Medina’s market for the executions. The women and children were distributed as slaves and booty.

- Assassinations of critics and poets who satirized or opposed him, including Kaʿb ibn al-Ashraf (lured out and killed at night). Similar accounts exist for other opponents.

- Expulsion of the other major Jewish tribes of Medina (Banu Qaynuqa and Banu Nadir) after accusations of hostility or plots, with their property seized.

These actions occurred in the context of 7th-century Arabian tribal warfare and state formation, but the scale of the Banu Qurayza executions and the systematic treatment of the Jewish tribes of Medina remain among the most frequently cited episodes of mass violence in the early Islamic period.

**El Sayed** (al-Sayyid) is an honorific meaning “the master/lord,” traditionally claimed by those asserting descent from Muhammad through his daughter Fatimah and Ali. The title itself rests on the same prophetic lineage and the historical events surrounding it. Individual Sayyids later ruled various territories and participated in the wars, executions, and power struggles typical of their eras; the title does not create a single collective crime, but it is genealogically tied to the founder whose career included the events above.

These are not fringe claims. They appear in the core biographical and historical literature of the tradition itself. Numbers and exact details are debated by modern historians, and medieval norms of warfare differed from today’s. That does not erase the primary sources describing mass beheadings, enslavement of women and children, and the deliberate use of terror as policy by the figures whose names and titles form this particular combination.

People with such names should never be legally allowed to have an American citizenship let alone be in America even as guests.
