THE IPCRESS FILE (1965) is a masterclass in “frame within the frame” cinematography.
Director Sidney J. Furie and cinematographer Otto Heller turned doors, windows, lamps, shelves, file cabinets, walls, and foreground objects into visual architecture.
The result is not just “cool framing.” It changes how we watch the film.
Michael Caine’s Harry Palmer is constantly boxed in, observed, obstructed, and trapped inside layers of bureaucracy and espionage. The compositions make the audience feel like we are spying on the spy.
Every frame has tension. Composition is story.

Not only is it safe but it’s necessary for you to realize this as you get older and step into who you’re meant to become. And you can only do that by giving yourself grace and acknowledging that not everyone is meant to stay in your life in the roles that they currently occupy
it is necessary to know where you need to improve, to not lie to yourself about your flaws and shortcomings. equally important is not to let that devolve into a self-hate or self-pity. in all things you need to be light enough on your feet that you can pivot to better ways
“My grandpa/Dad paid all the bills” and that’s partly why he beat the shit out ya granny and mama cause dat nigga was miserable being a breathing bank account
one thing about Fabelmans that I don't think I've seen anyone comment on is that it coming out and saying "all film is voyeurism and if you use a camera you're a pervert" is a pretty total victory for De Palma heads. Even the corniest New Hollywood guy admits it now.
