The diaspora is not treating investment like charity. It is literally replacing the state. That $100 billion is not going to consumption out of a lack of financial vision. It is keeping families alive because African governments have abdicated every responsibility they were supposed to carry. School fees, hospital bills, housing, food: the diaspora is subsidising what governance failed to provide, mostly while barely surviving themselves in expensive cities abroad.

Palestinians can't enjoy the World Cup, because when they gather together, Israel bombs them.

"I laughed over the Ycee 'Olodo Uprising' topic, not because I found it funny, but because he was identifying something in his time. However, he was seeing the latter stage of something that started in my own generation when I was probably his age.
I spoke about weaponized ignorance for the first time in 1994 when I wrote a piece on it. He is identifying the same phenomenon. The 'Olodo Uprising' was fathered by weaponized ignorance."

@tomiwa_xy To be fair that line was mostly referring to the “individual brilliance” I mentioned earlier. They’re not gonna win the whole thing, but as long as they’re in the comp, I can only wish them goodluck.
I agree with the take that “Brazil are now team of moments”. We only marvel at brilliance of certain individuals as opposed to how they work as a team. It’s only gonna take them so far, but I’ll keep enjoying them play while they’re still in the tournament.
@bashy_io I agree with this, but with Brazil specifically, that flair usually came with cohesion which is just not there rn. That’s gonna be the difference between them & the team that knocks them out. With Japan, they were lucky.
Gabi with the assist for the first goal & Martinelli giving Brazil their second goal. Arsenal players, in the form of both Gabis this time around, saving their country’s World Cup bid 🤝🏾
