Releasing Terry doesn't help (from a flexibility standpoint), since you'd have to replace him with somebody making just as much.
Only key is to stay below the 1st apron hard cap, which they are currently $13.2 million below. That's the max starting salary they can offer Oubre.
@DerekBodnerNBA How much can they give Oubre if, they wanted to release terry before his contract is guaranteed and wanted to sign a vet min in the buyout market?
Quick thoughts on the DWade signing:
- Sixers really needed some defensive versatility at that spot.
- Solid floor spacer, albeit would love more volume / quicker release.
- Plays pretty much mistake-free basketball (5.1% turnover rate!), which will be a nice change of pace.
Big question now is whether the Sixers look to bring back Kelly Oubre Jr. They have the space under the hard cap ($16.6m in room) to do so + use portion of remaining MLE to fill out 14th roster spot, but doing so would make getting under the tax at the deadline more difficult.
Just having someone who you can trust positionally will be a huge asset to Sixers' defense. Wade got about $2-$3m more than I was expecting, but they definitely got better.
I've added an estimate for Dean Wade's salary to my cap sheets. Leaves the Sixers with ~$8m in space under the tax, and $16.6m in space under the first apron, which is now a hard cap for the Sixers.

The growing anticipation leaguewide is that the Lakers ultimately secure commitments on new contracts from Toronto free agent Sandro Mamukelashvili and Philadelphia free agent Quentin Grimes while still pursuing their top summer target: Utah restricted free agent Walker Kessler.
