These are not movements. This is an opportunity to make a lifestyle change to prioritize equality DAILY. And for me, an opportunity to make this a part of my long term goals. I know it's not enough, it never will be, but recognition allows for progress. Let this be that catalyst.
I cannot speak for everybody in my respective group, but these are a few of the endless amount of examples of privilege in my life. The self-realization that comes as a result of typing these out is important.
I am a white, straight, Christian male. Yes, I am privileged. The more I educate myself, the more I realize how much I don't know. The more I realize how I need to be doing more to be an ally, an advocate, and a supporter.
Wearing whatever I want to school, work, parties, etc. without risking my "provocative" clothing being used to justify any unwanted sexual interaction #thisismaleprivilege
While being white noise, quite literally, to these important movements, I want to take the time to publicly acknowledge the privilege in my own life as a white, straight, Christian male. This is a small, but important step in the right direction for me. So here goes it.. (1/x)
