Subs used for nuking people are SSBNs, carrying intercontinental ballistic missiles. They're, to the contrary, placed far away from enemies, in relatively safe waters, where they're almost impossible to counter.
@NikdeBai1@nicholadrummond Germans already tried playing the optimisation game. Cut down the dismounts, make it cramped as hell, use the most compact components available. It ended up 44 tons in combat config, without APS. And if you're too tall you literally can't fit inside properly.
@NikdeBai1@nicholadrummond Your point on APS is also BS. APSes cannot handle HMGs and autocannons, they have to be defeated entirely by passive armour. There's no way around that fact. And ACs have only gotten stronger over the years.

- APS oftentimes can't fully stop an attack, and passive/reactive armour is needed to absorb the rest

@H7pernerd@Polar000077 It's quite a bit harder, as it will always need forward are for the intakes. This means either placing them outside the main fuselage (Meteor) which increases footprint or putting them in the nose, which limits the seeker's size. Either way there's a compromise somewhere.

@ManxFreeState@heatloss1986 AMRAAM isn't. LRASM and JSM are. AIM-9X are tricky, as the ones slated for F-35 are given a RAM coating, reducing their RCS. Hard to say just how stealthy that solution is tho.
