Pakistan turns down Saudi request to strike Houthis.

Pakistan says the Mecca Pact of mutual defense “doesn’t cover a pre-existing condition,” so it only covers wars started after the pact was signed. It also covers only state actors, not non-state actors (and perhaps preferably those within reach of Pakistani power projection).

Saudis won’t ask Turkey (the third partner in the Mecca Pact). If they did, Turks would happily deploy naval assets from their Somalia base. Turks itch to control Bab al-Mandab; a fight with the Houthis would give them an excuse. Saudis are not keen to replace Iranian occupation of Yemen and the strait with Turkey.

You need to watch this incredible video to understand just how tired China's neighbors are of its aggressive coercion.

In the middle of a talk at the Seoul Defense Dialogue, China drops a note scolding and attempting to intimidate the Filipino National Defense Secretary over the South China Sea issue.

Instead of acquiescing like Beijing wanted, the secretary read the note out loud, ridiculing and debunking it as he went before saying, "perhaps, basic decency and behavior is what China needs to do."

My summary doesn't do the clip justice — it's an absolute evisceration.

Hoy estaba hablando con un amigo Chino sobre el monte Everest y, cuando dije ese nombre, se molestó.

Me explicó que para él, los Chinos, para muchos Tibetanos y Nepalíes, ese nombre tiene tintes de colonialismo científico, porque implica una historia que yo y mucha gente de este lado del mundo desconoce: el borrado de los nombres que ya existían para esa montaña.

La verdad, me dio curiosidad y me puse a investigar... 🧐

But as soon as it got so much main stream media attention due to FIR/Netflix…expectations grew and it lost it’s charm
