I think a great thing to do… is ask the students in the school what they think the adults in the school need to know about them. Listening to what the students have to say… and valuing what they have to say… goes a long way toward building a great school culture.
Can’t say enough about the brave poets from yesterday’s 8th grade slam. Thank you for inspiring us with your words and your courage! Keep writing! @dmcrouch59#RippIB#ProudTeacher
How lucky are we? HUGE thank you to shayna_arielle and the amazing SHS seniors that gave up their time today to speak with our 8th graders about what to expect next year! Such a privilege… https://t.co/l1ape7Gu6e
Such a beautiful thing seeing our students proudly celebrating our diversity. Huge shout out to Ms. McKenzie and all the staff and students who made Diversity Day a success! #RippIB
It doesn’t really matter what they’re saying about us. In the end, the only thing we can control... is what we’re saying about them.
And what we’re saying about them... should always be constructive. A legacy of building up, always trumps a legacy of tearing down.
Students investigating my untimely (fictional) death as part of our annual argument writing unit. So lucky to collaborate with @dmcrouch59 and nothing better than seeing our students get engaged! #RippIB#RaptorPride#ELAChat#SPSInspire
4 ways to be a good colleague:
1) Give the adults around you the benefit of the doubt.
2) Focus on solutions rather than dwelling in negativity.
3) Demonstrate a relentless commitment to doing right by kids.
4) Be willing to stand in the gap when your colleague needs help.
How can we increase student engagement and meet youth where they are?

In a great classroom, the students aren’t the only learners. The TEACHER is a learner also. When teachers are curious, when they are vulnerable, when they continue to grow… they provide stronger instruction, and they provide a great example to their students.
