Tom Holland reportedly demanded for these 3 things before making Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
After The Odyssey, Holland had a much bigger say in how the movie was made.
For Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he wanted:
• A street-level Spider-Man - Holland spent time studying what fans wanted and pushed for a more relatable story focused on Peter rather than another massive world-ending threat.
• Creative involvement - For the first time in his tenure as Spider-Man, Holland was welcomed into the writers’ room before the script was fully written, bringing ideas and the “voice of the fans” into the process.
• A clear reason for the movie to exist - Holland reportedly pushed back against simply making another Spider-Man sequel because it was commercially successful.
He wanted the filmmakers to know exactly why they were making this chapter and what it was trying to say.
And perhaps most importantly, Holland wanted Peter Parker to feel more grown-up and emotionally grounded.
He even pitched the original “Spider-Puberty” idea that eventually became part of the movie’s story.
Marvel didn’t just bring Tom Holland back as Spider-Man.
They reportedly gave him a much bigger voice in shaping what this version of Peter Parker should become.
📰 Vogue HK: From campus god to suspense thrillers and now comedy, a look back at versatile actor 'Face genius' Cha Eunwoo’s most iconic on-screen roles
Over the years since his debut, #ChaEunwoo has proven with time that he is more than just the ‘Face Genius’. He is an artist who constantly challenges himself and strives for evolution. From idol, singer to actor, every step has been solid and determined.
Gangnam Beauty (2018)
Gangnam Beauty became a turning point in Cha Eunwoo’s acting career. He played the outwardly cold but inwardly warm chemistry genius Do Kyungseok, earning unanimous praise for his high fidelity to the original character. Although the role is a campus heartthrob, Eunwoo portrayed the character’s reflections on a society obsessed with appearances and his inner struggles. The drama not only solidified his status as a “webtoon adaptation king” but also won him the Best New Actor award at the Korea Drama Awards.
Rookie Historian Goo Haeryung (2019)
Rookie Historian Goo Haeryung was Cha Eunwoo’s first historical drama. His portrayal of the gentle, jade-like Crown Prince still dazzles fans to this day.
Cha Eunwoo plays Yirim, a popular romance novelist who values freedom and refuses to be confined by palace life. Through a twist of fate, he meets the upright and outspoken female historian Goo Haeryung outside the palace. Their initial clashes, filled with prejudice, gradually evolve into a romantic love story that breaks societal shackles and brings mutual healing. If you want to see Eunwoo in historical attire and a side different from his modern roles, this drama is definitely worth watching.
True Beauty (2020)
He plays a high school student who appears perfect on the outside but is cold inside. However, the character’s depth is far more complex than the surface suggests. Childhood trauma, adolescent loneliness, and the subtle distance in his first love gave Cha Eunwoo more room for restrained emotional performances. His chemistry injected vitality into the drama and further expanded his global popularity.
A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023)
In this fantasy-tinged romance drama, Cha Eunwoo plays high school teacher Jin Seowon, who struggles with interpersonal relationships and fears intimacy. Despite the unique character setup, he handles the comedic and emotional moments naturally without overacting, making the role more relatable. His performance is light and approachable, presenting a cute yet substantial image.
Wonderful World (2024)
This suspense drama tells the story of a mother who loses her son and decides to seek the truth in her own way amid grief. Cha Eunwoo plays Kwon Seonyul, a young man with a fragile heart but strong will. He appears smart and steady on the surface but carries his own secrets and past scars. He shed his past sunny heartthrob image to portray a complex character full of inner struggles, showcasing a more mature side. Whether conveying repressed trauma or the emotional tug-of-war with the truth, his performance was composed and impressive.
The First Ride (2025)
Cha Eunwoo doesn’t just take on varied roles — in 2025, he made his big-screen debut with the movie The First Ride. Shortly after its release in Korea, it outperformed the Japanese anime film and claimed the daily box office crown.
Eunwoo plays an ordinary young man in his confusing life stage — just like a typical middle-schooler, yet harboring grand dreams. On the surface, he seems like a listless “shut-in” with no motivation, but deep down, he crazily dreams of becoming a DJ at the Tomorrowland Music Festival. This group of friends, each with their own burdens, rediscovers youthful passion and the bonds of friendship abroad. Eunwoo excellently portrayed the contrast between the character’s outwardly dejected but inwardly passionate side. His lifelike acting earned consistent praise from critics and audiences, successfully unlocking a brand-new chapter in his career.

📰 Cha Eunwoo in ‘The WONDERfools’, An Absolutely Irreplaceable Fresh Charm
Actor Cha Eunwoo has once again proven his undeniable value. In the series, he appears at every key moment, leaving a strong impression and driving its global success. By maximizing his signature fresh, pure charm while naturally handling action sequences and emotional performances, he has expanded his acting range even further.
The Netflix series The WONDERfools, released on the 15th, tells the story of four ordinary residents of Haeseong City who unexpectedly gain superpowers at the end of 1999. It follows their struggle against villains threatening the town’s peace after acquiring their abilities. In its second week of release (May 18–24), it recorded 7.9 million views (total watch time divided by the series’ total runtime) and ranked No. 2 on the Global Top 10 TV Shows (Non-English) chart.
Cha Eunwoo plays Lee Unjeong, a character with telekinetic powers. He is one of the survivors of the "Wunderkinder Project," an experiment that created people with superpowers. In the present, he lives as a civil servant in Haeseong City. He convincingly portrays a man carrying a heavy past through his sorrowful eyes and detached demeanor. Even the scene of him smoking a cigarette while wearing a tank top in his room feels naturally compelling thanks to his unique aura.
Above all, Cha Eunwoo’s greatest strength is his irreplaceable atmosphere. It is rare to find an actor who can simultaneously convey boyish charm, decadent appeal, pure freshness, and melancholy. His ability to dominate cool scenes not through dialogue but through his eyes and facial expressions is a weapon unique to him.
In particular, whenever Eun Chaeni, who gained immortality after a childhood heart transplant, faces mortal danger, Lee Unjeong appears to save her — evoking classic hero narratives. He gradually opens his heart to Chaeni, who calls him “Master,” and ultimately risks everything, even his life, to protect her. This pure-hearted aspect further maximizes the character’s appeal.
Some viewers criticized the romance between Unjeong and Chaeni as “unnecessary.” However, it is Cha Eunwoo who ultimately makes it convincing. Rather than over-emphasizing the emotions, he naturally conveys the shift in their relationship through subtle expressions, atmosphere, and eye acting alone.
With this project, Cha Eunwoo has demonstrated an even broader acting spectrum. Moving beyond his image centered on romance and youth dramas, he successfully handled superpower-based action and restrained emotional performances, proving his acting once again.
Recently, Cha Eunwoo found himself at the center of controversy after it was revealed that he had received a tax assessment from the National Tax Service. Initial reports mentioned a scale of around 20 billion KRW, but the actual amount was reportedly about 13 billion KRW, which he has fully paid. One source noted, “Cha Eunwoo has been physically and mentally exhausted over the past few years,” adding, “It’s hard to see him as being in a state where he could evade taxes.”
Nevertheless, Cha Eunwoo has once again proven his worth through his work. Pop culture critic Kim Sung-soo commented, “Cha Eunwoo held his own alongside others acting powerhouses[...] .” He added, “His choice of project right before military enlistment was smart. It’s a work that leaves a strong impression and will become an important turning point in his filmography going forward.”
