Excited to share our brief introductory video showcasing the impactful work of the Detroit Grassroots Coalition. Our efforts include holding the Detroit Reparations Task Force accountable and rallying grassroots advocacy for reparative justice.
You'll see how we leverage media outreach, town halls, and letters to influential bodies like the CBC, Detroit NAACP, and city officials. Our commitment has opened doors, allowing us to engage with key figures directly like City Council President Mary Sheffield.
We invite you to participate in this important and historical effort towards lineage-based reparative justice. Together, we can work towards resolving the generational issues that impact our financial well-being, ensuring a more equitable future for generations to come.
We thank you for your continued support!
I'm thrilled to share the incredible work we've been doing on reparations here in Detroit. Join us to hear how the @DETGRC313 is moving the needle for Reparative justice and learn how we can partner and network together to bring our local efforts to the state level in Michigan 🤟🏾
A long-vacant building on Detroit’s west side is getting new life as a bookstore and café focused on literacy and community.

Calling ICE “slave catchers” is a grotesque false equivalence. My ancestors were owned and hunted for existing, with no choice and no consent. Illegal immigrants chose to enter or remain outside the law. Stop exploiting the history of US chattel slavery to make sloppy arguments.
“We are trying to figure out how we’re going to organize on the ground in order to apply pressure to this new administration. We don’t want to throw (Sheffield) into the lion’s den, but we’re trying to figure out how to encourage her to be a little bit stronger on this topic.”
@repairdetroit has uploaded its Recommendations Report to the city’s website. This is not the final step it’s the beginning of the next phase. A public session has been promised. We’re watching closely! The fight for lineage-based reparations presses on!

BREAKING 📣
The Detroit Grassroots Coalition condemns @repairdetroit's final report as engineered erasure of Black Americans in Detroit and our demand for lineage-based eligibility. The coalition calls for accountability and partnership with Mayor-elect @MsMarySheffield.
🎙️“There's a group called the Detroit Grassroots Coalition..had a virtual meeting with city council president and her office..kind of tense meeting honestly, coming to her directly, voicing frustrations about the lack of process, pushing her to get more involved” #ReparationsNow
“To be eligible for reparations, the task force says a person must be a descendant of an African enslaved in the US or in the diaspora, at least 21 years old, and a current resident of Detroit for at least 20 years”
