@ARanganathan72 Even booking a train ticket across different cities by foreign tourists is a night mare in India which is not a case in any of the European countries
Even domestic tourism in India is huge in volume, but the experience for interstate travellers is often poor. The same problems that deter foreigners also hit Indians moving across states.
Basic facilities lag behind the crowds. Public toilets, parking, last-mile roads, and crowd control frequently fail at popular sites. Information is scarce, ticketing is messy, and hygiene is a recurring complaint.
Safety and civic behaviour add friction.
As someone in Texas, I'd say the Dallas and Houston numbers are the most overstated in that list. I am sure the other cities is along the same line.
For context:
The U.S. median household income is about $87,460.
San Francisco's median household income is about $141,000.
The article's "comfortable" salary for San Francisco is $407,597, almost 3 times the local median household income.
That means even in one of America's wealthiest cities, roughly 85-90% of households do not earn that much. Yet millions of people still live there.
If there is backlash against Indians abroad, it is fueled in no small measure by loud & brash displays of Hinduism, cultivation by India's political leadership of the Indian diaspora, & deliberate conflation of all Indians and their distinct ethnoregional cultures w Hinduism.
If you want to live peacefully in India
- Avoid roadrages
- Avoid teaching civic sense to strangers on road
- Avoid public transport
- Avoid discussing politics in public place
- Say sorry with folded hand and move on
People have became impatient and violent specially here.
This is the new epidemic which no one is talking about
@bseshadri You don’t have to justify the numbers just because they come from the party you support. This is coming from the current Economic Adviser to the PMO. https://t.co/yETIqH8sw5
Sanjeev Sanyal just said the quiet part out loud.
They delayed the GDP base-year update for years. Then they changed it. And he admitted on camera what that does: you drop old dying sectors from the basket and add younger, high-growth ones. After that, the growth number “looks good.”
That is not an Opposition talking point. That is the PM’s own economic advisor explaining why 7.8% arrived after the series change.
If the number is so clean, why did he have to warn people in advance not to complain once the base year was updated?

I'm tired of hearing the slogan: "In 2014, only ₹2.5 lakh was tax-free, and now there's no tax up to ₹12 lakh."
Let's look beyond the headline and do some basic calculations.
Case A: A person earning ₹14 lakh in 2014
Under the old tax regime, after claiming commonly used deductions:
Salary: ₹14 lakh
Section 80C: ₹1.5 lakh
Medical and transport allowance: ₹25,000
Home loan interest or HRA benefit: ₹2 lakh
Section 80D: ₹35,000
Tax paid: Approximately ₹1.3 lakh
Case B: Adjusting everything for inflation in 2026
Let's assume a modest average inflation rate of 6% over the period, although expenses such as rent, education, and healthcare have often risen much faster.
Inflation-adjusted figures:
Salary: ₹28 lakh
Section 80C limit: ₹3 lakh
Medical and transport benefits: ₹1 lakh
Home loan interest or HRA benefit: ₹4 lakh
Section 80D: ₹70,000
Taxable income would be around ₹20 lakh. Under an inflation-adjusted version of the old regime, the tax liability would be roughly ₹2.5 lakh.
Case C: A person earning ₹28 lakh in 2026 under the new tax regime
Since most exemptions and deductions are unavailable:
Salary: ₹28 lakh
Deductions: Minimal or none
Tax paid: Approximately ₹4.1 lakh
The point
Comparing the 2014 tax-free threshold of ₹2.5 lakh with today's ₹12 lakh threshold without accounting for inflation, salary growth, and the removal of deductions can be misleading.
The real question is not how much income is tax-free on paper. The real question is:
"How much tax does a middle-class taxpayer actually pay after considering inflation and living costs?"
That's the comparison that matters
