@jwafs_mit Water issues are complex – in particular, we need more initiatives like @jwafs_mit Solutions Program to speed the lab-to-market transition for sustainable innovations in the water space (like with COVID vaccines), so that the latest science can help as many people as possible.
@jwafs_mit We are making and releasing many new molecules into the environment, and we don’t know what impact most substances will have in coming decades. At @DoyleGroupMIT, @PSdoyleMIT and I are working to eliminate some of these (including xenoestrogens, PFAS, BPA) from water.
@jwafs_mit Clean-looking water can contain impossible-to-remove micropollutants that cause conditions like cancer through prolonged exposure. Among others funded by @jwafs_mit, novel sustainable absorbents that @PSDoyleMIT and I are making target these contaminants.
@jwafs_mit Apart from water supply issues, climate change is making several energy/carbon-intensive water treatment methods like activated carbon in home/city filters unsustainable, making it harder to supply inexpensive clean water, and making novel water treatment technologies essential.
Check out our latest #openaccess research, Coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations of immobilized micelle systems and their interactions with hydrophobic molecules led by Devashish Gokhale, Ian Chen and Patrick S. Doyle @PSdoyleMIT https://t.co/bxbWdLntd3
Congratulations, Devashish!🥳
@DevchemE has been awarded the Rasikbhai L Meswani Fellowship for Water Solutions. He develops sustainable materials for the removal of emerging contaminants and heavy metals from water.
