VIDEO | Forced by the crisis, women walk miles balancing pots on their heads. And what they bring back after the exhausting journey is not clean water, but green, algae-filled water barely fit to drink. This isn’t a scene from a remote desert. It’s happening in a village on the banks of the Narmada.
This is Mohaniya Patpara, a tribal village in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district. Despite being just a kilometre from the river, it faces a severe water crisis. Villagers say taps installed under the Nal-Jal Yojana have been dry for over a year, after the pipeline was damaged during road construction.
