In 2016, we published potentially the largest single feature to ever appear in a printed issue of Game Informer magazine with a full oral history of the legendary studio, BioWare.
We've made that feature available online and free for the first time following reports of the studio's impending closure. https://t.co/jRThcbKbIE
To help against misinformation:
This is the result of the Saudi Arabian buyout deal. The most ridiculous deal ever made where EA could barely cover the cost of the debt it accrued.
A lot of people will attach their personal feelings to the "why" but this is the real reason ^
in the same week we are seeing steam next fest full of ai slop projects, epic games doubling down on an ai first mindset, all while watching historic studios get shuttered with hundreds of people now added to the already thousands of laid off devs
this is the future of gaming
it's a real shame. so much of what people love about AAA games is inspired by Bioware. back when the trilogy was dropping, i used to call Mass Effect the "gamer's lord of the rings trilogy." this is hard to process.
Mass Effect legit changed my life.
Those games had so much decision, layers, care, and meaning that I took with me.
To see EA, one of the worst corporations in the industry break them down is devastating.
RIP BioWare💔
CD Projekt Red will carry the torch🙏🏾
Bioware has been a massive part of CDPR history. We befriended them when localizing and selling Baldur’s Gate games in Poland, Czech, and Slovakia. And later they were great help when lending us their engine for Witcher 1, sharing their wisdom and even giving us a spot at their booth at E3. I had a pleasure to visit them a few times in Edmonton and also host them in our Warsaw office. Very sad for the people affected, but also sad to see a legendary brand go down. Not a great day in the games industry.
