Saw ESPN talk to @JeffPassan a few days ago and when asked if Getz went for a type of personality when looking for this team, he said that “you never know how it’s gonna be when you put a group of guys together” but I think that’s the farthest from the truth. My column: (for real tho)
Getz and Venable are “player meetings” heavy. The offseason was like meetings galore, it’s all they talked about “meetings” and “talks” and I believe they clearly did that to craft the organization based on how well they would all get along
I guarantee they probably passed on other players with better skill for someone like Sam Antonacci. The guys they chose were not simply chosen for who they were on paper, the player fits the atmosphere and they bought into Getz and Venable’s “talk” with them.
I used to conduct interviews and do hiring at a previous job of mine and the reason that job was my favorite place to work at, despite it being grueling, is bc we looked at how well the prospective hire would mesh with the staff day to day.
I would have prospective hires interview with 2 other people on staff to sus them out and if all 3 of us agreed they would be a good fit, we hired them. And that made the job smooth asl. Less turnover, people covering for each other happily, we all get along and hangout. Work was fun!
Essentially, you cannot load up on stars and then roll the dice to see how they play together— that is why the 2023 White Sox rocket crashed and exploded with everyone in it. You are gonna get longer success and consistent results if you actually try to put the puzzle pieces together rather than dropping them on the floor and assuming they’ll land perfectly in place.
I think I recognize this aspect so much bc I did cheer and it’s the longest sport in high school, longer than baseball. a good team is completely built around the comradery. a lot of the preseason is hanging out, playing games, sleepovers, bc you have to become a family. or else you will resent each other when things get hard. And once you start getting resentful, the team feels like it’s a drag. (2023 again amirite?)
I think team dynamics are a make or break at a job. Imagine balling out with your bros… now imagine NOT balling out with your bros… see what I mean? It matters. Just SSBmin’s 2 cents.
Over the last 10 games for the #whitesox
Average runs scored: 4.8
Average runs allowed: 4.2
The offense is doing their job. Its up to the pitching to put more daylight between the two

It has come to my attention that c*bs fans are spamming votes for pca to be an all-star. As of today, I ask EVERYONE who sees this to vote for ANDY PAGES as many times as possible so that being an all star is still credible by not allowing pca in!
A lot has been said about the gauntlet the White Sox face over the next few weeks, but here are the Guardians next 15 games:
3 at Yankees
3 at Rangers
3 vs Yankees
3 vs Tigers
3 at Brewers
Not exactly a cakewalk either. The White Sox just need to stay within reach of them.
