All smiles from Shelby Newkirk who broke her own Canadian para record tonight at the trials in Montreal.
She told me she talked her coach this morning about wanting to break it.
And she did exactly that in the SB5 100m breaststroke event tonight.
Oliver Dawson continues his strong swimming of late.
He posts a time of 2:09.50 for the victory in the 200m breaststroke.
That’s less than a second away from Mike Brown’s Canadian record that has stood since 2008.
Alexanne Lepage with a really strong 200m breaststroke swim to victory at trials.
She posts the 7th fastest time in the world this year to win.
It’s a personal best for her and she’s beaming in Montreal.
TAYLOR RUCK DOES IT AGAIN
She’s just won her fourth national title this week in Montreal. This time it’s a victory in the 50m freestyle in a very solid time.
What a story she’s been this week. Incredible comeback. Joyful. Surging.
Ella Jansen and Finlay Knox pick up 200m individual medley victories at the Canadian trials in Montreal.
Jansen is competing for Canada at the Commonwealth Games later this month.
Knox will represent Canada at the Pan PACs in August.
Just spoke to John Atkinson, Swimming Canada high performance director, who tells me there isn’t an illness going around Canadian trials.
He says Summer McIntosh’s and Mary-Sophie Harvey’s illnesses are unrelated and both are receiving medical support.
Mary-Sophie Harvey says she’s withdrawing from the 200m IM final due to health issues she’s been dealing with since the start of the meet.
She just posted this to her IG story.
This comes a day after Summer McIntosh withdrew from trials due to illness.
A day after Summer McIntosh withdrew from trials due to illness, Mary-Sophie Harvey has now scratched the 200m individual medley final.
She won a bronze in this event at last year’s worlds.
Tracking down info as to why she’s out for tonight.
Happy Wednesday sports fans from Montreal.
The weather has been spectacular throughout the Canadian swimming trials here.
We’ve reached the penultimate day of competition. Finals begin tonight at 5:30pm ET on @cbcsports. I’m going to find croissants 🥐
Oliver Dawson for the win.
He stops the clock in a time of 27.65 in the 50m breaststroke.
Dawson broke the Canadian record in this event about a month ago. He’ll be at the Commonwealth Games and Pan PACs for Canada this summer.
Sophie Angus touches the wall first in the 50m breaststroke.
She stops the clock in a time of 30.40 — just shy of the Canadian record.
Amanda Reason set this record — a world record at the time — July 8th, 2009 in Montreal. Her time 30.23 still stands.
Finlay Knox for the win.
The opportunity was there for Knox to win this 100m butterfly with Josh Liendo not here and Ilya Kharun now competing for USA.
And Knox made the most of it, winning in a time of 51.82.
HAT TRICK FOR TAYLOR RUCK
Taylor Ruck wins the 100m butterfly in a time of 58.15. That’s now wins in the 100m backstroke, freestyle and fly.
She becomes just the second Canadian ever to win three titles in three different strokes at nationals — the other being Summer McIntosh.
Ethan Ekk for the win.
He posts a time of 3:47.22 to secure a national title in the 400m freestyle
But he just told me post-race he isn’t happy with that time, that he’s switched up his training and that it’s all about patience right now.
Bob Bowman has had an illustrious coaching career, guiding Michael Phelps to 28 Olympic medals.
Now he's hoping to guide 🇨🇦Summer McIntosh to an Olympic medal haul at LA 2028. Yesterday Bob and I sat down in Montreal to chat.

Getting set for night three of the Canadian swimming trials here in Montreal.
Summer McIntosh is out due to illness.
Paying close attention to the 50m breaststroke events this evening. We might just see a couple Canadian records fall. It all starts at 5:30pm ET on @cbcsports
“I'm so sorry, but on the advice of my doctors and coach, l've made the difficult decision to scratch from my remaining events"
Summer McIntosh has withdrawn from the remainder of Canadian trials in Montreal.
