@trumanosmond23@Cameron49368604 I agree Truman. I as well very much enjoy a local cover band that plays all of my favorite hits. The atmosphere and excitement at these shows make the experience even better. I'll have to check out the Rockhouse or the Blacksheep sometime soon!
@KathySenior11@Kayleigh8894 I can agree with you both based on a personal experience of seeing The Lumineers play live. They sounded so authentic and as close to identical to their recorded records as you can imagine. Surely an experience I'll never forget!
I think that Wald's assessment is very much true for today's youthful pop audience. Auto-tune is extremely prevalent in today's music industry, giving listeners a false taste of the artists real sound. I had a live show ruined when the artist didn't sound as I expected#S22POPMUS
@ShouryankC I agree, I also see no other value in it but to learn from the past. I can't imagine being an artist that put my heart into creating my own unique music, just to have it ripped off and slightly rebranded by an artist who gains a multitude of success from my hard work.
@Kayleigh8894@BlakeZoeFrance1 I agree with you both! There is a lesson to take away from every mistake in history and Schlock music is no exception. We should continue to teach future generations about this form of music and ensure it doesn't get left behind.
Schlock music is an imitation of an artist's music to appeal to a teen audience and should be considered a "theft" if proper credit is not given to the original artist. We should not value robbery but instead recognize this music as a significant part of music history #S22POPMUS
@xKobly True! The passion you can hear in his voice really shows how much he cares about his lyrics. Some artists may write songs purely to sell to the masses and not have such a deep connection with the topic or story being told.
@BesmahTepagende Hi Besmah, I couldn't agree more! The vocal breaks also set Ray apart from other popular musicians at the time and paved the way for a future style of music.
I believe Ray Charles' use of a breaking voice in his songs created a deep and personal connection with his listeners. Lyrics alone can not paint a full picture of the passion and emotion Ray put into his music, but the breaks helped express his feelings. #S22POPMUS
@tajsquires Hello Timothy, I also thought of this! I remember individual songs for purchase on iTunes for 1.29 not too long ago. I may have purchased about 5 songs in total on my iPod and was discouraged from exploring other types of music due to the pricing.
@michaeljoc123 I very much agree! I often find myself discovering new artists or genres based on suggested playlists created on streaming services. There are playlists designed for just about any activity or mood, full of new music to explore!
For me personally, the development of the Bluetooth headset is an instrumental component of my daily life. My headphones allow me the freedom to listen to multiple genres of music depending on my environment, whether I'm at the gym, work, library, or doing chores #S22POPMUS
@NicksMusic2011 I couldn't agree more! Regardless of how a specific style of music is interpreted by someone else, if I enjoy the song (for the beat, lyrics, featured artists, etc.), then the purpose of entertainment is fulfilled. It's impossible to please everyone in any medium.
@ShouryankC I totally agree about being torn when reading the section on Adorno and Horkheimer. I believe it is difficult to categorize and critique all "popular music" when such variety in messages, artists, and cultures exist.
I agree that some genres of popular music today are "dumbed down" considering the lack of substance behind lyrics that provoke violence and drug abuse, however many artists today still create very powerful forms of art for the attentive ear to absorb and enjoy. #S22POPMUS
