Denominations will determine what you believe unless you look outside of them and dive deep into the history of Christianity.

As someone who's been looking into Eastern Orthodoxy for over a year and was recently confirmed into the Church, I can say that it's been a blessing to get closer and closer to Christ during this time.

Being a Christian isn't just about having a personal relationship with Christ, it's about sharing with those in our churches and witnessing to those outside of it.

As someone who used to say "Christianity isn’t a religion, it’s a relationship with Jesus.", I realized I was ignoring the things that help build a relationship with Christ (that are in fact religious): baptism, prayer, fasting, Eucharist, etc.

It is in fact not just about religion, but the religion aspect, if we practice it sincerely, helps us get closer to Jesus. A lot of this seems foreign to lower church Protestants but there's no need to fear or call it pagan because this is the way Christians got closer to Christ and they did it with love towards our Savior.
