This is absolutely true. If you've perused left-leaning Reddit or other social media in recent months, it's clear that many people have perceptions of what's at stake and what "their side" losing means that are completely unmoored from reality. They're terrified. Honestly, we're about to witness a serious and widespread mental health crisis because of it. You likely truly don't appreciate just how sincerely people believe that there are now going to be mass executions, that Muslims will be banned from the country, that People Will Die, that Women will be subjugated in unfathomable ways, etc., etc.

And we can gloat about this and mock this and rub it in - or we can be decent human beings who want all Americans to experience The Good Life. I fully understand that after four years of getting repeatedly called a whole litany of terrible things as a result of these lies and blatant mischaracterizations, spiking the football in some faces feels good. Our broken human nature doesn't often or easily lead us to respond to derision with grace and compassion and education.

But if we are concerned at all about the Bigger Picture and truly wish for us and our children to "live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness," we should let ourselves be touched by the better angels of nature here.
