Convicted Palestinian prisoners are not hostages.

Just like in any other country, they are imprisoned for committing crimes—often murdering Jews, which is still a crime.

They are brought to justice, legally convicted, and serve their sentences in prison, with visits from the Red Cross and calls from their families. Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was even treated for a deadly brain tumor by a Jewish doctor in an Israeli hospital while serving his sentence.

Tragically, that doctor’s nephew was later killed by Hamas in the attack orchestrated by Sinwar on October 7.

It will never be the same.

And let’s be clear: convicted Palestinian prisoners are never executed in prison. Not like Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Bipin Joshi, Ariel and Kfir Bibas (4 years and 9 months old), and several others.

The hostages released today have shown superhuman endurance in the face of evil.

The abduction of men, women and children on Oct 7th was a calculated cruelty to break body, mind and soul after inflicting the mindless horror of rape and murder. No cause, no grievance, can ever justify what happened that day.

I, for one, will never forget. The incomprehensible response from some in the West, that instinct to equivocate, to indulge in whataboutery and draw false equivalence shows how far moral clarity has eroded. All right-thinking people know we’ve got a job to do here at home as well to fix this.

But today, I am just relieved that 20 families will have hope restored. That hope is tempered by sorrow for those who will never come home.

They will be honoured. They will be remembered and we stand with their families.

May their memories be a blessing.

Let’s say this clearly: Hamas to Palestinians is what Nazism was to Germans. Both were born from pain, humiliation, and real suffering. But both turned that pain into hate, not healing. They promised “honor,” but brought only death. They claimed to defend the people and destroyed them instead.

The Nazis convinced Germans that salvation comes through annihilating another people.
Hamas did the same, wrapping it in religion instead of nationalism.
Both replaced logic with rage, education with propaganda, and compassion with martyrdom.
Both used their own civilians as fuel for a holy war they never intended to win - only to rule through fear.

We Palestinians cannot build a future while worshipping death.
We cannot speak of liberation while following an ideology that murders dissent, silences women, and glorifies blood.
If we ever want real freedom - moral, political, and human - Hamas must be banned, dismantled, and buried with the same moral clarity with which the world buried Nazism.

Germany was reborn only after it faced its demons.
Our rebirth, too, will begin the day we stop confusing resistance with self-destruction.
