During the 2022 Buffalo blizzard, Jay Withey went door to door searching for shelter.
Ten times, he was turned away.
So he broke a window at Pine Hill School and guided 24 stranded people inside, including seven elderly individuals whose vehicles had run out of fuel.
He found cereal in the cafeteria, gym mats for makeshift beds, and gave everyone a chance to make it through the night.
Before leaving, he wrote a note: “I’m terribly sorry about the window. I had to save everyone. Merry Christmas, Jay.”
Police later asked the public to help locate him. Not so they could arrest him, but so they could thank him.
When a nuclear reactor powers on for the first time, the core fills with a deep blue glow that feels almost unreal as it rises through the water in a quiet surge of energy.
The light is Cherenkov radiation, created when charged particles move through the water faster than light can travel in that medium, a discovery made in the 1930s that revealed a new way to see high energy reactions.
Every appearance of this glow is a reminder of how powerful atomic reactions can be, showing a rare moment where raw physics becomes something visible and strangely beautiful.

Throwback to May 2023, when #TeamGDC’s Geothermal Resource Department was on-site to inspect the Steam Gathering System at the Menengai Geothermal Project during its commissioning phase.
Our team, led by Senior Energy Planner, Raymond Sewe, is currently sensitizing officials from @TaitaTaveta006 on the Integrated Energy Plan (INEP) Regulations, 2025.
Mr. Sewe emphasized that counties are central to realizing the country’s energy goals.
“We commend @TaitaTaveta006 for launching its County Energy Plan recently. This is a strategic a step towards achieving universal energy access,” said Mr. Sewe.
@EPRA_Ke is conducting a nationwide sensitization drive across all 47 counties on the INEP Regulations, which require counties to develop tailored energy plans that address their unique local needs.^DC
