I opened my TV, landed on President William Ruto at Mukuru kwa Jenga, and within ten seconds my remote started sweating.

The man was talking like Mukuru is a PowerPoint slide he designed last night. Roads everywhere, jobs raining from the sky, poverty trembling in fear. I looked at the screen, then at my wall, then back at the screen same electricity bill, same hustler face, different universe.

He was promising dignity with the confidence of a man who’s never priced unga in Mukuru. Talking about transformation while the background screams “borrowed crowd, hired claps, prepaid cheers.” Even the microphone looked confused.

I didn’t even switch channels. I switched off the TV completely. Not out of anger out of self-defense. My intelligence was under attack. My common sense was bleeding.

At some point he said “we have listened.” I laughed so hard my TV stand shook. Listened to who? The echoes in State House?

Mukuru kwa Jenga on TV looked like Dubai. Mukuru kwa Jenga in reality was probably watching the same speech on a neighbor’s TV powered by illegal electricity, wondering which part was science fiction.

I switched off the TV and enjoyed the silence. At least silence doesn’t lie.
