Friday night lights in Waynesville for the first time since Helene. Pisgah High is playing at a local middle school, its home stadium flooded out; its small downtown, Canton, in ruins. The community is still reeling from the closing of its mill last year.
But it has tonight.
Thank you to @FEMA_Deanne and all of our local, state and federal partners for their dedication to helping western North Carolina. Emergency personnel, hospital staff and volunteers are working around the clock and we are grateful for their efforts.
This morning, a convoy from Division 2 - Craven County made their way west to help with the aftermath of #Helene. It's just a portion of the resources that have been allocated from across the state to help.
Please continue to avoid all non-emergency travel in Western NC.

My steadfast friend Judge Forrest Ferrell of Hickory passed away. Since my college days interning with him I’ve known him to be an honest, caring, witty, brilliant lover of the law, his family, our state and country and I will sorely miss him. - RC

Had been looking forward to kicking off the weekend by watching the @DiamondHeels in action in the ACC Tournament, but the @accnetwork strikes again…with a blackout…in the Triangle, the one place in the world where people might actually tune in. @BubbaUNC, please help.
Tomorrow, we’re going to change our clocks to gain an hour of daylight. If we pass my Sunshine Protection Act and make Daylight Saving Time permanent, we’ll never have to lose that hour - let's get it done!
Resetting our clocks twice a year worked for Americans a century ago, but it’s time for a change. Instead of regularly disrupting our lives, we can make Daylight Savings Time permanent and give families more sunlight to enjoy after work and school.
I wanna post the video of my grandma getting her COVID-19 vaccine, but she's wearing a @DukeU sweater, and ...
... TARRRRRRRRRRR
So this tweet serves to say: get your grandmas vaccinated, and also, if you pray, send one up to my grandma who is a delusional Duke fan.
Update: RDU is now up to 17.21" this meteorological winter, making it the 2nd-wettest winter ever and only 0.02" from the all-time record of 17.23" in 1983-1984! Will that record be broken? With little rain expected for the rest of today & tomorrow, we will have to see! #ncwx
Yesterday, I visited Walter Reed for the first time as president to thank our frontline workers and members of our armed forces. Selfless, humble, and dedicated to service — these folks truly represent the best of America.
US military fatalities just increased by one in Sinai helo crash today. Now 6 US servicemembers killed. Fact: not one word from Pentagon, State or WH. Six Americans died today in service of the Constitution, the country and peace. May their memories be a blessing.
