Good insurance really depends on the area. We have a company called State Farm, and are pretty happy with them. I think its around $60 a month.

Property insurance is kinda bad, depending on where you live. But it's a free market, so if you dont like the terms of an insurance company you get a different one

Some states are higher, some are lower, some have exceptions for veterans. It's a balancing act, they need money to fund the govt from somewhere (Income tax, Sales tax (VAT in EU), or property tax.
