8 in 10 (80%) House members voted to impeach Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, the highest share of lawmakers in recent record of impeaching a public official.
The Constitution requires a share of 1 in 3 (33%), a goal that has been easily met in previous impeachments.
Government debt is again on national agenda these days.

As the House of Representatives prepares to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte (again), here's a look at past impeachment experiences of the Philippines from an earlier piece. 🧵
Philippine lawmakers are expected to hold a vote to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte this week.
Under the Constitution, 1/3 of the House membership should vote to impeach for trial to proceed in the Senate. Previous impeachments of other officials easily hurdled that number.
Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte reported no cash on hand or in bank from 2019 when she was Davao mayor to 2024 when she was vice president, according to data presented on the House hearing her impeachment.
The data is based on her SALN for years she was in public office.
Based on what was released to the public so far, about P206 billion of projects to be funded have been identified. As of April 1, the budget department said it has released allotment for about P125 billion of the funds.
The Philippine national government has set aside P238 billion on its budget to respond to the Middle East oil crisis.
The budget will come from the 2026 and 2025 outlays and will fund, among others, cash assistance to PUV drivers, medical assistance and gov't fuel purchases.
NEW: Philippine officials have refused have refused to call the current surge in the country's oil prices a "crisis." The data says otherwise.
Here's our quick take -- and chart -- on the current oil supply problems in the Philippines.

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has officially declared that she will run for president in the 2028 elections, where she is the frontrunner.
The announcement was unusually early for a candidate, including former VPs that sought the highest office after their term.
Under the Constitution, there are two ways an impeachment can be filed at the House of Representatives. Observers colloquially call them the “long” and “fast track” methods.
The Supreme Court established some guidelines how to go about them.
