Democratic media star Leigh "PoliticsGirl" McGowan came to Abby Phillip’s CNN table today with a rather awkward question for Donald Trump and the Republican Party:

If communism is such a terrifying threat to America, what was everybody doing at the White House throwing a lavish party for the leader of the Chinese Communist Party?

“What concerns me is that what I hear from the Republican Party, which is Donald Trump’s party, all the time, is the horrors of communism,” McGowan said. “That the Democrats are communists, and communists are ruining America, and communism is the biggest threat America has to face.”

“And then I watched the red carpet be rolled out for the biggest communist dictator in the world.”

McGowan pointed to the pomp surrounding Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit and the friendly treatment he received from Trump.
“I watched Fox News all day talking about communism, communism, communism,” she said. “Every single one of them got dressed up to go to that dinner.”

Conservative strategist Tim Parrish pushed back, arguing that China is a rival world power and an American president has to maintain relationships even with governments the United States opposes.

“But we don’t need to be praising the leader of a communist nation,” McGowan replied.

Then Abby Phillip put the contradiction directly to Parrish: Does Trump praising Xi undermine the White House argument that communism is the greatest threat facing America?

“Well, of course, it undermines that argument,” Parrish conceded, before arguing that Trump still has to deal with China.

A little later, conservative commentator Jason Rantz tried to turn the criticism around. Months ago, he argued, Trump’s critics complained that his trade war was too aggressive toward China. Now they were complaining that he was being too friendly.

“Pick a lane,” Rantz told them, before McGowan pounced.

“YOU pick a lane. Pick a lane on communism. Is it good or is it bad?”

And there’s the contradiction McGowan spent the whole exchange hammering away at. Diplomacy sometimes requires American presidents to sit down with adversaries.

But it’s a lot harder to spend all day portraying communism as an existential menace to America and then spend the evening showering the world’s most powerful communist leader with praise and pageantry.

Trump's Big Ugly Bill signed in July includes work requirements, provider tax changes, and eligibility restrictions that the nonpartisan CBO says will push roughly 10.9 million Americans off their health coverage by 2034 — including up to 7.6 million from Medicaid alone.

But here's the part that should make your blood pressure spike:

The midterm elections are on November 3, 2026.

The cuts begin six weeks later.

This wasn't an oversight.

The pain was deliberately scheduled to begin after voters had already cast their ballots. Republicans knew exactly what these cuts would do to rural hospitals, seniors, kids with disabilities, and working families. They just didn't want you connecting the dots at the ballot box.

92% of adults on Medicaid already work. The "work requirement" doesn't catch freeloaders — it kicks people off coverage because of paperwork, address changes, or jobs that don't neatly fit a bureaucratic checkbox.

The bill also includes a $155 billion cut to rural Medicaid funding. If you live anywhere outside a major city, that ER may not be there in five years.

Don't let the timeline trick you. The Big Ugly Bill is a stealth cut. The only question is whether we'll be tricked again.

No independent oversight. No body cam mandate that sticks. No consequences that have landed on a single guard's career

Just a dead man, a coroner's report nobody in this administration wanted written, and a press secretary who will call it an isolated incident by Thursday

This isn't enforcement. This is a kill count with a badge attached

Trump built the system that let this happen and he will never say the man's name out loud

They are not going to stop until somebody makes them
